Meet the Ks

So since I just posted a little tidbit the other day I figure I should give you more, for my tons of readers.

The History
I graduated from high school and had absolutely no idea what I should do, this led to me traveling to several different colleges, much to my father's chagrin, but I did finally graduate with a degree in Biology.  One good part of my travels was I met Mr. K.  Now when we first met I was not interested, oh I was interested in him, just not dating him or anything serious.  I guess what you would call a mostly physical relationship.  Well, Mr. K was quite persistent and after 6 months of us being unclassified we finally were officially dating.
After Mr. K graduated from college, I was still figuring out what I was doing, I mean working hard at school,  he proposed at sunset.
Fast forward a few years, I made Mr. K  Mr. K moved down to Maryland for Law School and we were getting ready for our December Wedding!!  Still one of the happiest Days of my life.

I had various jobs in the Biotechnology field until the economy hit and my last company laid off most of their workforce.  I'm not bitter because I was lucky and got a nice serverance package.  And because of this lack of work, I sort of fell into my current job; I teach high school Biology.  Yes it is hard and I can't tell you how many times I almost quit that first year, but I do love my job!

Mr. K graduated Law school and proceeded to try and find a job in the failing economy.  He was not one of the lucky ones and opened his own practice.  It was freaking hard but he came out on top, eventually.  So like responsible people, we decided to have a baby.

Ben was born in June (perfect teacher pregnancy) and it was everything anyone ever told me about being a mom.

Birth Story
We were super lucky and had a really normal pregnancy.  No complications, no scares just growing a healthy baby.  And I truly understand how lucky we were.
So of course week 39 brings high blood pressure and bed rest.  The night before my sweet boy was due , the doctor decided to induce.  So I was induced that night.  That whole night was ok besides not being able to get up to go to the bathroom.  The next morning around 7 or 8 am they came in checked me, holy crap that hurt, and then broke my water at 4 cm.

That got the party started, so I did the best I could, and I think I could have gotten through more of the labor unassisted if I was able to get off the bed.  Oh the evil of Pitocin. I asked for pain meds about 5 or 6 cm in and epidurals are awesome!!! So we got to the really fun part of pushing.  At 7pm the day after being induced, I had a little lip left according to my doctor, and she said I could push past it.  So I pushed a little bit, not really knowing what I was doing.  And she said I pushed past the lip of cervix.  I was like HELL YEAH! I got this baby pushing out thing!!

FIVE HOURS LATER
Yup I was still pushing, we tried everything, tug of war, mirrors to see progress, different positions. Nothing helped. I would push, I would throw up, I would beg for water, and cry.  Oh the glamour of childbirth  I would see his little head and then it would go back up.  Finally my wonderful doctor said we could do one of 2 things.  Forceps or C-section.  I panicked!  Forceps could damage, but I didn't want to go through all of this and have surgery.  So I opted for the forceps.  The catch was we had to use the forceps in the Operating Room because if she couldn't get him out, she was going to do an immediate c-section.

Wheeling me into the OR, there were probably 10-15 people I had never met, they shaved me because God knows I hadn't touched my lady parts with a razor since I couldn't see them.  And I didn't care.  Good thing about childbirth, you don't have any modesty left.

She got the forceps in, I pushed and prayed, twice and then I felt him being pulled out.  He gave me a good kick on the way out but he was out. AMAZING!  Mr. K ran over and help his hand while they got the placenta out and stiched me up.  Only a 2nd degree tear so I felt pretty lucky on all accounts.  So two days after being induced, after 5 hours of pushing, and one pair of forceps my baby Ben was out!!!

Beautiful in every way!

The next few months were a blur of figuring out breastfeeding, enjoying quiet moments with Ben and preparing to go back to work in August.

Now we are at least getting close to the Present
